Organic Production Research

Organic banana production on a commercial scale has thus far not been successful in Costa Rica, primarily due to the intense humidity of the region. With the support of Whole Foods Market, EARTH has launched an effort to produce organic bananas in two areas of Costa Rica with the ultimate goal of converting EARTH’s existing banana plantation to the first commercial-scale, export-quality organic banana farm in Costa Rica.

In the first half of 2007, EARTH will plant just under 10 acres of organic bananas on EARTH’s primary campus in Limón Costa Rica and another 10 acres of organic bananas at the EARTH’s La Flor campus in the dry tropical Guanacaste province in the northwest of Costa Rica.

We will be updating this page with photos and additional information as the project advances.
